8TH Grade Week of October 8-12, 2012 Monday- 10/8/12 Daily Objective: “I will…”
Define sensory details & mood.
Analyze how mood can be established by using sensory details.
Procedures:
Go over sentences taken from the text using Tell-Tale Heart vocabulary words—Complete column 3 on “Tell-Tale Heart vocabulary notes” handout (if not completed in class on Friday)
Continue/Finish Sensory Details Powerpoint—define sensory details, look at examples, practice identifying examples together as a class and writing your own. Begin a rough draft paragraph: Pick a noun (a person, object, scene, place, etc) and describe it using at least one example of each of the 5 senses. Do not directly tell what your noun is—let your readers guess, based on the sensory details you included!
On a sensory chart, jot down sensory details while viewing
After video—discuss sensory details + mood.
If someone who was unfamiliar with the real “Mary Poppins” movie viewed the “Scary Mary” trailer, what would they be led to expect that it’s about? (This is because of the mood!)
